Unlocking 3 Game-Changing Tips For Managing Inflamed Ducts
GONE are the days of aggressive massage as a treatment for clogged ducts.
What we have learned in recent years is that clogged ducts are actually INFLAMED ducts. And we definitely don’t recommend aggressive stimulation for inflammation. So, instead, try these 3 things or seek further support from a breastfeeding professional. (You can always send us a DM and we’d be happy to chat).
First - avoid OVER stimulation. Do not aggressively rub the area. Do not pump more frequently or at a higher setting. Instead, pump to relieve the fullness and feed your baby at the breast/chest as your normally would.
Second - Whenever possible, apply a hot pack before feeding and a cold pack afterwards. The heat will help the milk release and the cold will decrease inflammation and breast milk production. I know that sounds scary to some. But after a feed or pumping session, you don’t need anymore!
Third - Epsom salts are an amazing recovery tool for many things! That’s why you can find them in JLM’s postpartum recovery kit. You can mix a tablespoon in hot water and then mix in some cooler water in a milk collector and suction it on your breast. Many people report an amazing sense of relief doing this.
